Toward the end of the last few Decembers (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015), I’ve summarized Hard G’s free software contributions for the year. Here’s the 2019 edition. First, the numbers. About 13% of my working time in 2019 was spent on otherwise-unfunded free software work. The bulk of this (~8%) was spent on BuddyPress, with the […]

I’m constantly working on maintaining and improving BuddyPress, WordPress, and a stable of free WordPress plugins. Most of the time, I don’t single out that work for a blog post. But a set of recent updates to the illustrious Anthologize is worth a mention. You may remember Anthologize as a project that grew out of […]

As in previous years (2017, 2016, 2015), I’d like to take a look back to see how Hard G’s contributions to free software stacked up in 2018. I spent about 12% of my tracked time in 2018 on free software projects not directly linked to client work – more on this last bit in a […]

A few weeks ago saw the launch of Commons In A Box OpenLab, a major project funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Hard G played a big role in conceiving and executing the project, and I thought it’d be fun to walk through some of the work here. A bit […]

In 2015, I spent more time than ever contributing to free software. Over half of my tracked working time (50.14%!) was devoted to WordPress and related projects. More specifically: 35.8% was spent on WordPress core, 12.4% on BuddyPress, and about 2% on the maintenance of other plugins. A few things I’m especially proud of: There’s […]
Read MoreWelcome to Hard G
I’ve been doing custom WordPress development and consultation for a number of years. At first, it was under my name only. After a while, I decided to organize a company, in order to keep my business concerns separate. I chose the name “Hard G” as a subtle primer on how to pronounce my last name. The company name has existed, for the most part, on invoices and contracts. I thought it was about time to give Hard G a coming-out party.
